Why is the screen color different to the printer color?

Color on a Computer Monitor

Monitors, scanners and digital cameras create images using three colors: Red, Green and Blue (RGB), and can only emit light of that color. The intensity of light emitted by each color can also be varied. These colors are generated by technology using phosphorus tubes, liquid crystal displays etc. You can see up to 16.7 million colors on a monitor.

Printed Color

Colors on the printing press are usually created using four inks: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (CMYK). Printed color cannot reproduce all the colors you see on a monitor and will also differ between different printing processes and ink variations.
